Grable Plays 4-Player Chess (Variant)

Playing 4-player chess, on chess.com. This variant is “War For Throne II,” one of my favourites. The game rules are 5-check, king of the hill (more details below). This time, we’re playing as part of a tournament with time controls of 2 minutes (initial time) and 5 seconds added to your clock per move. Hope you enjoy, and please let me know if you’d like to see more.

War For Throne II: Each player starts with 21 pawns which can promote to kings on the 4th rank, and one “Royal” king. For the purposes of king-of-the-hill, and standard chess moves, only the royal king functions the same way a king does in regular chess. All others are essentially pawns that can move in any direction, 1 space. Capturing a pawn counts as 1 point, kings=3 points, and giving checkmate counts as 40 points. If all other players lose on time, or if a royal king makes it to one of the centre 4 squares, all remaining kings are checkmated. Stalemated kings are also awarded their own 40 points.

The time control in this version was much slower than in my hyperbullet video, and even players playing for the first time will be able to keep up! I would encourage anyone who thinks this looks like fun to log on and try it out!

  1. wait, why did the game end? that makes no sense.

  2. Why did green move all his pieces towards the centre of it does nothing?

  3. What is the advantage of taking the center? Would it be better to just rush the enemy king?

  4. Lol honestly don’t know why ur sub count is only ~300 I think it should be more like ~30,000 👍🔥
